LCD vs LED Televisions

The LCD television is a flat-panel television which utilizes a Liquid Crystal Display technology. It has two layers of glass which are polarized and stuck together. The liquid crystals are held in one of the layers. These liquid crystals pass, or block the light, to produce images on the screen when the electric current passes through it.

However, the crystals do not produce their own light. The light comes from the series of fluorescent lamps at the back of the screen. There are millions of shutters arranged in a grid, which open and close to release and trap some of the light that is not needed to create images. Then each shutter is paired with a colored filter which produces a sub-pixel. These are so small, that when they combine, they create a single pixel, which appears to be a single spot of color on the screen. With the help of the fluorescent lamps, the images created by the liquid crystals become visible to the viewer.

LCD television produces high image quality. They can be made very thin, which makes them less space-consuming, and the user can hang them anywhere. This makes them appealing to buyers.

LED TV’s are actually very much like LCD TV’s. They also have a flat-screen which utilizes Liquid Crystal Display technology. The only difference is their source of light, which is at the back of the screen. The LCD TV uses fluorescent lamps, and the LED TV uses LED (Light Emitting Diodes).

There are two types of LED backlighting. One is referred to as Edge lighting, and the other is called Full-Array lighting. With the Edge lighting, the series of diodes are arranged along the outside edges of the screen. When there is power, the light is distributed across the screen. Alternatively, in Full-Array lighting, there are several rows of diodes behind the entire surface of the screen. They provide more control over brightness and dimming, because the diodes can be turned on and off independently.

LED TV’s are LCD TV’s with a new backlight system. They are newly developed for LCD’s, because Light Emitting Diodes are said to give more balance in color saturation, and use less power than the fluorescent lamps. LED TV’s are the newest version, and that’s why they are currently more expensive than the standard LCD TV’s.

Summary:

LED TV’s are still LCD TV’s. They are just considered to be the newer LCD TV version because of the new backlight system used. The LED TV uses Light Emitting Diodes, while the standard LCD TV uses fluorescent lamps. Although they both still use Liquid Crystal Display technology. The main difference is the part behind their screen, which is the backlight.

Tablet vs Notebook

Tablets and notebooks are two devices that satisfy most people’s computing needs while being mobile. A notebook is basically just another name for a laptop, which is basically a computer that is squeezed into a very small package. A tablet is a smaller and sleeker type of computer as it forgoes the physical QWERTY keyboard found on most notebooks, which takes up a big amount of space on the device. Instead, the main input device of tablets is the touch sensitive screen. A tablet is packaged with a stylus which one can use as a pointing device or as a pen when writing input. Operating systems that are used with tablets are packaged with very capable handwriting recognition software that would decipher what one is writing and convert it to text. If one does not want to use handwriting recognition, one can also pull out an on-screen keyboard that one can use for input.

The main advantage of tablets is in their flexibility. Unlike notebooks that one needs to open and place on a stable surface in order to use comfortably, one can use one hand to hold a tablet and the other to manipulate it. This is one of the reasons why tablets are preferred by people who are always on the go. Note-taking is one use where tablets excel considerably over notebooks.

Given the advantages of tablets, they also have their disadvantage, namely the price. For a given specification, tablets cost considerably more compared to notebooks. If one is on a tight budget, one can get more for the buck with a standard notebook rather than with a tablet.

The lines between tablets and notebooks are beginning to blur due to the appearance of convertible notebooks that are equipped with touch screen displays which can be rotated and flipped to act as a tablet. These offer the best and worst of both worlds. While one can have the flexibility of having a notebook and a tablet in one, the device is also considerably heavier and comes with a steeper price tag than most notebooks. The hinge of the rotating LCD display also presents a weak point for the device where damage can quickly occur.

Summary:

1.Tablets often lack the full QWERTY keyboard seen on notebooks.

2.Tablets have a touchscreen interface not found on most notebooks.

3.Tablets are more flexible compared to laptops.

4.Tablets are much more expensive compared to notebooks

Difference Between Laptop and Notebook computer

Although laptops and notebooks have very similar traits such as they are both portable and you can take them anywhere, there are some differences between both of them.

Let us start with notebook computers;  notebook computers are designed to allow you to do computer work while on the go and still offer all the power mobile users require for entertainment as well as work. This type of computer usually is not cheap and your top of the line notebooks can be very expensive.

Notebook computers are ultra light, which makes it easier for you to take it anywhere you want. The lesser the weight the better for you! It has 4 hours plus battery life, and it has a low profile, which means it’s thin. In addition, it doesn’t have an internal floppy disk, nor do you have the ability to utilize CDs or DVD’s. It has a minimal graphics subsystem. In addition to this, it has an integrated modem. If you require the services of the internet, that’s not a problem  as it has a network connection. It’s screen is about 12″-14″ long and it has a keyboard that is just big enough to be functional.

Now as for a laptop, the name says it all. It is a portable unit meant for you to be able to work with while resting on your lap. In comparison to the notebook, it looks quite large and has lots of power with several features.  The standard laptop should have most if not all the following features .
-Laptops usually are a little bigger than notebook computers and a little heavier than they are.
-They have an Nvidia GeForce or ATI Radeon graphics subsystem, Internal DVD-RW drive, an integrated modem, network and WI-FI capabilities
-The speakers are a integrated high quality system.
- It also has at least 2 hour plus battery life,
-The keyboard is large enough to be used conveniently.
-Laptops screens are at least 14″-17″ long.
-Also laptops are very upgradeable.

As you can see from the above information, there are many similarities as well as differences that exist between a notebook and laptop.

The design of the laptop gives you all the capabilities of a desktop computer yet remains mobile.

Cloud computing’s the future

Amazon launches new cloud computing services

In an era of rapid technological obsolescence, no computing device’s future is assured. With cloud computing offering unparalleled convenience and portability to the user, the same could be said for the future of the personal computer. Cloud computing means that people can have access to their digital files and software on the go, with little more needed to access them than simple input and output devices as well as an internet connection. Amazon has launched two new products, Cloud Drive and Cloud Player, which allow users to tap cloud computing and store all their music and video files on a network of remote storage facilities. While such bold new products ensure ease and affordability for current users, they also herald a future where not only the denizens of New York and London but also the poor from India to Africa, can take advantage of the opportunities provided by computers.
The poor will be the greatest long-term beneficiaries of cloud computing because it eliminates the cost barriers to accessing the digital age. People can opt to use the most basic hardware, amounting to little more than a keyboard and screen. Gone is the need for large and expensive harddrives and processors capable of operating them. But this won’t result in any loss in productivity or effectiveness because people using basic machines will be able to access huge amounts of data – stored remotely – and process it using software which is provided and
paid for by someone else.
All of this is premised on internet connectivity. Here again, the poor can piggyback on the rich. As more people armed with computers move to areas without internet or with poor connectivity, it is in the interest of providers to expand and enhance networks to serve customers better. Not only does cloud computing close the digital divide, consumers too benefit because accessing larger markets will spur corporations to innovate even more.
More hype than real potential Anil Thakkar
For all the hype surrounding it – and there has been plenty ever since it became the latest buzzword in tech circles – cloud computing as a complete solution remains firmly in the realm of the hypothetical. As far as Amazon’s latest gambit goes, it will directly tie into and boost Amazon’s formidable digital media marketplace. Which explains why it’s attracting attention. It’s the same reason that cloud computing in general is grabbing headlines; it has more to do with internet giant Google pushing it, given that it ties in well with Google’s services and revenue streams, than inherent value.
There are two simple reasons for cloud computing simply not being viable as a replacement for robust conventional operating systems and data backup. The primary one is security. By definition, part of cloud computing entails storing data off-site in massive data farms. As one might expect, this raises serious concerns for any number of enterprises as well as personal users. Beyond loss of control over sensitive data – for instance, financial records – it raises the question of misuse of data as well as vulnerability to hackers. Factor in the inability of the actual data owners to oversee and audit security and it becomes clear why any number of enterprises are wary of cloud computing.
The second problem is the rather basic one of connectivity. If you are dependent on cloud computing and your internet data transfer speeds are inadequate, your functionality is greatly crippled. In India where internet penetration, let alone data transfer speeds, is a serious problem, this is the kiss of death. India isn’t the only country; there are a number of others, including the US, where the infrastructure in this area is lacking. Until that is fixed, cloud computing as the mainstay of enterprise and personal solutions will remain a pipe dream.

4444G

TRAI the telecommunication regulator who released the 3G technology said this past week that they are not working on the release of their new ultra-broadband. The ultra-broadband also known as 4G or fourth generation technology by the end of 2010.

Chairman JS Sarma of TRAI said they will release consultation details and “Before the year-end we should be ready with recommendations on 4G,” he added.

4G broadband will be a lot faster than its predecessor and will give users HD video, faster speeds and higher download speeds. The ultra broadband is an improvement on the 2G and 3G broadband settings. 4G technology will provide mobile and PC users with gigabyte speeds with faster than ever speeds

After previous broadband connections saw low rate of sales, the Chairman of TRAI added “We want to give the recommendations on the National Broadband Plan by July.”

TRAI will have to look into the band and quantum mode allotment for operators, if 4G is accepted. US-Based Ericsson and Motorola have been testing on the 4G technology. If the technology is accepted, users will have to pay more for spectrum above 6.2 Mhz. The government will get revenue of Rs. 21,717.1 Crore.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) demanded that the Communications Minister A. Raja must resign. As they said he was “involved in corrupt practices by selling 2G spectrum to some industrialists by manipulating TRAI [Telecom Regulatory Authority of India] recommendations.”

“The CPI(M) demands that Mr. Raja immediately resign from his post pending a high-power inquiry into the entire 2G spectrum scam. If the Minister refuses to resign, the Prime Minister should sack him to maintain the dignity of the high post Mr. Raja is holding in the government,” they said.
